Kavivarya Moropant Granthalay (Library) is Taluka ‘B’ Class library owned & maintained by Panhala Municipal Council. 19000 books of different types and 435 members are there. Kavi Moropant was one of the great poet during 17 Century. As he spent some years of his life on Panhala, Granthalay was named after him. He is well known for his Aryas. Some of his script in his own handwriting is available here.

Hotel Rasana & 12 Rooms in Garden are available for the tourist. This is opened on contract basis. This is also source of income of Panhala Municipal Council & also facility for tourists. Garden with large trees, coffee shrubs etc.

Arboretum Site is R. S. No. 457 & 466 located along famous Teen Darwaja to Mangeshkar bungalow road. Area under plantation is 2.56 hectares. The planted species include trees (158 sps), shrubs (87 sps), grasses (7 sps), Perennial Herbs (19 sps), bamboos (6 sps), orchids (3 sps), palms (5 sps), climbers (33 sps), ferns (6 sps), pines (9 sps), cycads (2 sps). The activity itself is a Unique Activity in Southern Maharashtra.

Solid Waste Management Project CTS No. 209 on which all Municipal solid waste collected is processed. The biodegradable waste is processed by technique compost & vermin compost. The agencies can sale Recyclable waste. The site is having wire fencing, gate, windrows platform, vermin compost shed, solar lights & water facilities. The site is developed through 12 Finance commission grant.

            S.T. Stand Shopping Center – CTS No. 216 on which this shopping is under construction is near S.T. Stand. This project is undertaken through 12 Finance Commission grant.

Main Functions for the city

Water Supply Scheme
The scheme run by Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran. Since it’s not possible for the council to run the scheme because of huge expenditure of the scheme, which can’t get balanced with the income from this scheme. The source is @ 8 Km from the city & head is up to 500 m with four pumping stations. Beside this Council manages to protect water sources like wells on the fort.

Municipal Solid Waste Management
There are nearly 700 properties in the limits of the council. Door-to-door collection of waste is done by Ghanta-gadi. So Waste Collection beans are reduced by 80% . Daily sweeping of main road & cleaning of gutters is carried out by the contractor. The collected wet solid waste is processed by vermi compost. This processing project is on BOT basis.


Other functions like street light etc are carried out by the council. With all these duties, council successfully handles it’s environmental responsibility. Every year in rainy season regular plantation is done. There are five gardens owned by & maintained by the Council. Arboretum which is First of its kind in South Maharashtra. Full grown up trees with 10 to 15 feet height are planted on Circuit House to Tourist tax naka road.
5 to 6 lakhs tourists visit Panhala every year. So this tourist tax is the main source of revenue for the council.
